The Second Sky (part 4)

Sela and Rovan leave the eastern houses with Tavi and Orin, following an older winter route toward Split Rock.

The four cross a failing winter route, reading exposed stone, unstable snow, and shifting loads as Split Rock comes into view.

Tavi and Orin turn back at Split Rock; Sela and Rovan find the west road buried and spot a distant traveler shelter.

Sela and Rovan reach the snow-blocked shelter, dig out the door, warm themselves inside, and admit they are both afraid.

Stormbound overnight, Sela and Rovan joke, share small intimacies, and fall quiet after imagining life in each other’s home.

They return to the coast, report the eastern houses safe but cut off, and Sela invites Rovan to stay and eat with her.
